Christmas in July-ish!
August 6th, 2016
It's been a busy yet wonderful summer! Beside enjoying some much needed family time, I've been trying to improve the illustrations that are in my Christmas book, Warm Chocolate! Hopefully, I will be done with the pictures within a few weeks and be able to re-release the book by late September! Until then, check out some of picture changes below and enjoy a little Christmas in July-ish!

Welcome to my blog! I'm currently updating this site and will be posting a longer blog entry soon so STAY TUNED!! Until then, say hi to my friends Ginger and Tommy. They just got done playing in the "snow", and are excitedly waiting for me to release the updated version of their book, Autumn Snow!
A Work In Progress...
June 9th, 2016
One of the first decisions I had to make after writing my stories was how to do the illustrations. Although I had no professional drawing experience, I had time and loved to learn new things so I decided to give it a try. Although Maggie's Epic Pancake was my first book, my first real "drawing" experience was Autumn Snow. At first I was happy with the pictures, however, as I learned more about illustration and made more books, I realized that the pictures could be better. Although it was going to be a lot of work, it was important that I give the world my very best so I worked on the pictures again. After working hard for two months, I finally finished the pictures and was thrilled with their new look (see below)!
Although it felt great to make that book the first time, it felt even better to improve it. So, as you live out your life, be proud of what you accomplish, but if you think something could be better by all means try it again. After all, life is not so much about what you do, but how you do it...you are forever a beautiful work in progress!

Happy Fall Everyone! Although it's been unseasonably warm here in Kentucky, the leaves are beginning to fall creating some pretty spectacular piles of autumn snow on the ground! Here are a few pictures of the autumn snow in my neighborhood! If you look closely, you can also see our fun-loving dog Bailey enjoying the snow too ( You can also see Bailey in my pretend book, Play)!

Here is one of my favorite summer pictures of all time. It is of my husband and son as they approach the shores of Lake Erie at sunset. This picture reminds me to be thankful for the beauty that each season brings, and also for my family! (FUN FACT: This picture is also in my book, Warm Chocolate!)
This picture was taken by me June 2014 at Lake Erie, PA. You can also see this picture in my Christmas book, Warm Chocolate!

Maggie's EPIC giggle, fliggle FEST...
May 13th, 2016
Enjoy the funny outtakes of my daughter Savanna ( she played Maggie in Maggie's Epic Pancake), and I as we try to make a short video together. All I can say is that sometimes you got to let the giggles, wiggles, and fliggles out (and if you are wondering, a "fliggle" is when you giggle so hard you fling your arms out...and yes, it is not a real word, I just made it up)!
One of things I like to do when I make picture books is take "creative leaps". Taking a "creative leap" means taking an object, a person, or an idea, and turning it into something completely new! My book Autumn Snow is a good example of this. In the book, Ginger and Tommy like to play in the autumn leaves; however, through the power of their imagination, they don't see the leaves as just leaves, but rather as falling Autumn Snow! To help the reader see the leaves as "snow", I drew random falling leaves instead of bushy leafy tree tops. I thought that just showing falling leaves would make the reader think of "snowflakes"; thus, giving the book more of a snow- like effect (see picture example above)!
Creative leaps are alot of fun and are a great way to get your brain juices flowing! So, as you go about your today, look around and see if you can take something, ANYTHING-a toy, a funny phrase, or even a sound, and turn it into something brand new! It may be a little hard to do at first, but before you know it, your brain will be playing "creative leap frog" with everything and everyone! Hop on and Happy Reading! -Eve
